Maida Services performs a "Mold Testing/Screening". Using the equipment shown on this page, the inspector or technician would most likely provide a combination of Topical sampling and Air sampling to give an indication of molds present inside the home. Performing a combination of these samples is usually most beneficial because mold is both "air born" and "topical".

Mold

Molds are tiny microscopic organisms found everywhere, both indoors and outdoors. Indoors they can grow in air conditioning ducts, on carpets, on walls and ceilings and virtually on anything they can attach to. They produce and release millions of spores into the air and can invade the human respiratory system.

The earlier you can detect the growth of mold in your home, the better chance you have to control it. Early detection and steps toward prevention are very important. Early detection and prevention may save you from paying much greater treatment, cleanup and repair expenses later on.

Air Testing

If you have air samples performed in your home, the tester will have to take an outdoor air sample at the same time as the indoor sample. A higher indoor level could mean that mold is growing indoors.

Air samples (which are compared to local outdoor air) can reveal "elevated" mold conditions in the home, which could increase the risk of mold related health problems.

Topical Testing

During our mold services the technician would investigate areas inside the home where microbial growth (mold) may occur. Physical samples can reveal "unusual" mold conditions. Some situations can also result in the growth of bacteria, which also can cause musty odors and health problems.

Samples taken by Maida Services, Inc. are sent (overnight) to a Laboratory that is Staffed with Certified Indoor Air Quality Professionals, Ph.D. Mycologists, Chemists, and registered clinical laboratory technicians. This laboratory uses Leica microscopes and is technically competent to perform the analysis of Indoor Air Quality, Microscopy of Fungi, Dust and Pollen.
